Nationwide Rail Network Halt
Germany’s rail network was brought to a nationwide halt on Tuesday amid an IT meltdown.
Footage from Schwabach shows the impact of the shutdown, with rail services halted and passengers facing disruption.

Operator Deutsche Bahn said trains were being held at stations because of a problem with the GSM-R communication system, which connects drivers with control centres.
The cause of the failure was identified around 90 minutes after the stoppage was first announced. Technicians worked to restore the system, while the company said passengers could receive taxi and hotel vouchers where needed.
Services Gradually Resume
Services began moving again on parts of the network after about two hours, but delays and cancellations continued into the night.
The disruption hit both long-distance and regional travel, leaving passengers waiting at stations and searching for alternative routes.

Germany’s rail network has faced years of pressure from ageing infrastructure, heavy maintenance needs and repeated delays.
