“I just know I work really really hard while schooling in poly and running my home based business because I never wanted them to feel otherwise about themselves again.” – Minx Chen
It’s not everyday that you see something on SG TikTok that makes you tear up. Amongst the “Gangnam Style” trends and WarTok, scrolling TikTok can be pretty jarring these days. That is, until this correspondent came across Min’s heartwarming video.
“Not good enough to enter the store”
In the first frame of the video, Min recalled an incident that occurred 10 years ago. When she was out window shopping with her mother, her mother pointed her to a bag that she really liked. Min then suggested that they should enter the store to check the bag out.
However, her mother turned down the idea as she “didn’t look good enough to enter the store”.
Min wrote that she didn’t quite understand what her mother meant, but she resolved to never make her mum feel that way when she becomes independent in the future.
After a Decade
10 years on, Min now runs a successful home-based bakery named Pastriets. Pastriets is a bakery that uses halal-based ingredients that has has more than 13,500 followers on Instagram and more than 400 5-star reviews on Carousell.
In the caption that accompanied the tear-jerker, Min shared how hard she had worked in the intervening decade between the incident above, and the incident we’re about to cover below:
I just know I work really really hard while schooling in poly and running my home based business because I never wanted them to feel otherwise about themselves again. I’ve grown so much throughout this journey and they’re the reason why I’m here today. They were my pillar of strength in everything I do. I hope they’re proud of me because I’m so lucky to have the best parents :”)
In the next frame of the video, Min’s mother is depicted sitting in an LV store and an attendant hands her a large LV bag. As the attendant approaches Min’s mother, Min embraces her mother.
As her mother unwraps the bags, her eyes welled up as emotions overwhelmed her. One TikTok user noted that her “eyes and expression said it all“.
When her mother saw the bag, she was pleasantly surprised. She who once felt uncomfortable to enter a LV store is now the proud owner of an LV bag due to her daughter’s hard-work.
The duo then shared a long, loving embrace.
In the final frame of the video, the mother poses as Min states that she “did it after a decade”.
