RJ Balaji recently admitted that he had former actor now-politician Vijay in mind when he first developed the script for his hit movie, “Karuppu”.

The filmmaker, who spoke about the film, which has been enjoying success at the box office currently, revealed that he had actually approached the now Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to star in the project back in 2023.
“When I narrated the story to Vijay, he appreciated it a lot and immediately asked, ‘Can we do this film right away?’ But I told him I still needed time to develop the script,” he said.

However, Balaji said that the actor then started to become more involved in politics before the project could move ahead. He then approached Suriya, who expressed positively to the movie.
Despite failing to get Vijay, the filmmaker admitted that the actor’s feedback and the conversations they had helped improve the story.

“The discussions I had with Vijay sir helped the script grow and change in many ways,” he added.
