Hundreds of visitors from across South Korea gathered at Samcheok Rose Park on Tuesday for the opening of the 2026 Samcheok Rose Festival.
Footage filmed at the annual event, held in the eastern coastal city of Samcheok, shows the riverside park turned into a colourful display of around 10 million roses from 218 varieties.
This year’s theme – The Birth of the Rose Kingdom – features rose fairy characters, parades, and themed installations, including a Fairy-Tale Rose Tunnel.
Visitor Lee Hyun-suk said the event brought back memories of visiting rose gardens with her husband when she was younger.

“I never realised how beautiful roses could be until I came to this festival. The scent is captivating and truly healing. The festival is so well organised; it fills me with joy,” she said.
First-time visitor Lee Su-jin, who travelled from Gangneung, said she came with her family to celebrate her child’s birthday.
“We’ve taken countless photos and enjoyed some delicious food. It has been a fantastic experience,” she said.
The festival programme includes character parades, food trucks, flea markets and the Rose Table event, which showcases local delicacies. The celebrations are expected to peak on May 23 with an aerobatics display by South Korea’s Black Eagles Air Show team.
