Hundreds of people flocked to branches of the Bank of Mexico in Mexico City on Wednesday to get their hands on the new commemorative coins for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The collection consists of 12 coins minted by the Mexican Mint, made from different materials and featuring designs dedicated to the Mexican host cities: Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City.
Among the available coins are the 20-peso bimetallic coins, the 10-peso silver coins, and the 25-peso gold coins. However, the bank limits purchases to 800 pesos per person.

Collector Jose Luis Rivas was one of those who waited the longest. “We’ve been here for 16 hours, since 12 noon on Tuesday,” he said, adding that “we are going to distribute them among the family so they also have a souvenir of this World Cup that well, took several years and we don’t know if there will be another World Cup in a while.”
On the other hand, Jazmin Vargas didn’t manage to get her coins although she arrived at 3:00 am, but the officials denied her the exchange voucher because she was a minor. “I didn’t know that minors weren’t allowed because I was told that there were many who came here, many minors, and they said that yes, they let them through, and now it turns out they even ask for your ID,” she said.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be held from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada and Mexico – the first tournament to be hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 national teams.
