60-Year-Old Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Abuse of Special Needs Student

A secondary school teacher in Melaka, Malaysia, has been arrested by the police for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old student. The accused teacher is a 60-year-old man. The incident came to light when the victim, who was mainly a special needs student, refused to go to school. She later narrated the entire incident to her elder sister.

As a result, the family took the matter seriously and filed a complaint with the police. The police then took swift action and arrested the accused teacher.

How the Incident Happened

The incident took place on April 16, at around 1 pm. That day, the victim went to the school staff room with her two friends. Then the accused teacher suddenly came up behind her and behaved indecently with her. He also asked some questions that made the student uncomfortable.

Her friends were also present when the incident happened. However, the teacher still warned her not to tell anyone. As a result, the student initially kept quiet out of fear but later dared to tell the matter.

Victim’s Condition

The victim has been mentally broken since the incident. She became very scared and started to fear going to school. Especially since she has learning disabilities, this affected her even more. Then she gradually shared the matter with her elder sister.

The family then supported her and decided to take legal action. As a result, her mental condition is also being taken seriously. Those concerned say that it is very important to stand by the victims in such incidents.

Police Action

The police immediately started an investigation after receiving the complaint. Melaka Police Chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed that police have arrested the criminal. He said that the initial investigation is verifying the truth of the complaint. At the same time, statements from witnesses are also being taken.

The accused teacher is being questioned, and necessary legal procedures are being followed. As a result, further information is not being released until the investigation is completed.

Legal Action

The incident is being investigated under Section 14(A) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Under this law, allegations of sexual abuse of children are considered a serious crime. If the allegations are proven, there is a provision for strict punishment against the accused. In addition, questions are being raised about the responsibility of the school authorities in such incidents.

Therefore, many feel that security measures need to be further strengthened in educational institutions. At the same time, awareness is also being raised to ensure the safety of students.
