34 People Fined in Malaysia After Vandalizing Karaoke Center in Violent Attack

A court in Malaysia has fined 34 people for an attack on a karaoke center. The incident took place at an entertainment center in the Cheras area on the evening of April 5. The accused allegedly vandalized the center and were carrying various weapons. After pleading guilty in court on 10 April, 32 people were fined 3,000 ringgit. (around S$962)

In addition, two young men were fined 2,000 ringgit. (arounf S$641). They will have to serve a prison sentence if they fail to pay the fine. Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered a new hearing to review the sentence.

Attack Incident

On the day of the incident, a lorry arrived and broke down the main gate of the karaoke center. Then a group quickly entered inside. They vandalized the place and caused panic. According to witnesses, the whole incident happened very quickly.

Many were seen holding sticks and other objects. Later, a video of the incident spread on social media, which clearly shows the entire scene of the attack.

Court Verdict

On Friday, the accused pleaded guilty in the magistrate’s court. Judge Faezahnoor Hassan pronounced the verdict against them. 32 people were fined 3,000 ringgit. On the other hand, two 19-year-old youths were fined 2,000 ringgit.

The court said that if they do not pay the fine, they will have to serve a prison sentence. Many see this verdict as a strong message.

The accused have been charged under Section 148 of the Penal Code. This section can carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison. At the same time, a fine or both can be imposed. The prosecution said that this is a serious crime. Because many people were involved and weapons were used. Therefore, they are demanding exemplary punishment.

Review Hearing

On the other hand, High Court Justice Aslam Zainuddin has ordered a review of the verdict. He wants to know whether the verdict is legally correct or not. A hearing on this matter will be held on April 21. The accused have been ordered to be present in court.
