A court in Malacca, Malaysia, has sentenced a female soldier to seven years in prison for sexually abusing her eight-year-old son. The 44-year-old accused was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court. Judge Raja Nur Adila Raja Mahaldin announced the verdict.
The incident is said to have taken place at a house in the Sungai Udang area of the Malacca Tengah district. The case is being handled under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act. The court’s ruling has sparked a new discussion on child protection across the country.
Time and Place of the Incident
Investigation revealed that the incident took place in late December 2024. The alleged incident of abuse occurred at the house at around 10:30 pm. The victim is the accused’s own child. According to the complaint, she committed the crime using her position of trust as a mother.
Later, when the matter came to light, the police launched an investigation. The incident caused a huge reaction in the society.
Court Verdict
The accused pleaded guilty when the charges were read out in court. In view of this, the judge ordered a seven-year prison sentence. The court said that the sentence will be effective from the date of arrest. That is, the prison term will start counting from March 3, 2024.
The case is being tried under Section 14(A) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 16(1) of the same act. This section provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning.
Prosecution Statement
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Asnini Kamarudin was present for the state in the case. He requested the court to impose an appropriate sentence. According to him, such crimes have a terrible impact on society.
Especially when the perpetrator is a family member, it becomes more serious. The state took a strong stand by presenting evidence and information. In this, the court considered the matter seriously.
Accused’s Plea
Before the verdict was announced, the accused pleaded for mercy from the court. She said that she is a single mother and has three other children. She wants a light sentence, as she will have to take care of them after the prison term. However, the court makes a decision considering the seriousness of the crime.
The judge said that ensuring the safety of children is the responsibility of all in society. Therefore, punishment is necessary for such crimes.
