Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released footage on Monday depicting rows of what it described as ‘defensive missiles’ and equipment inside a huge underground base.
The exact date and location of footage cannot be independently verified.
The IRGC stated that this base “houses defensive missiles and equipment including the Sayyad-3, [and] Dey (9D) air defence system.”
The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with the conflict now into its fourth week. Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have also traded cross-border strikes.
On Saturday, Donald Trump gave Iran a 48-hour ‘deadline’ to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or he would ‘obliterate’ the country’s ‘power plants’, and would start with ‘the biggest one first’.
The Strait handles around 20 per cent of global oil and LNG traffic, with prices surging since the attack on Iran. Tehran has said the Strait “is open to friends and non-hostile countries, but closed to enemies and those who collaborate with them.”
Iran has reported over 1,500 deaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed and over 200 wounded, with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side,
