A severe road crash caused a shock to the drivers in a busy highway when a trailer hit three cars and left the highway with a traffic jam and injuries.
The accident occurred at the northbound side of the North-South Expressway in the afternoon, when there is normally heavy traffic. There were numerous dwellers who were forced to spend hours stranded as emergency teams hurried to rescue them.
Sudden Crash Causes Chaos
The accident was in between two important routes and thus, a regular drive ended up being a stressful experience. One of the trailers with supermarket goods allegedly lost control and struck the car behind it.
The impact was so powerful as to push the vehicle forward to hit other cars and then start a chain reaction. One of the vehicles as well tipped over and landed in a road side drain.
The people present called on the police who immediately rushed to the rescue before the rescuers came. The members of the population pulled out two individuals who were trapped in their car. Such speed of action would likely have avoided more serious injuries.
Trauma and Emergency Management.
The total number of people involved in the crash was 12 people (including children). Others had severe injuries particularly in one of the sport utility vehicles.
Others had slight injuries yet they went to hospital to get examined. The emergency providers came to the rescue as soon as they received the alert and started clearing the debris in order to secure the region.
First aid was administered at the scene by paramedics who then took the injured to a local hospital. Firefighters also took their time to clear the road of damaged vehicles and other debris and traffic slowly came back to normal.
Investigation Underway
A 28-year-old man who was the driver of the trailer was later arrested by the police after tests revealed that he had been using illegal drugs. The authorities think this could have made him lose his control of the vehicle. They are now holding him in to aid in the investigation.
Officials are still in the process of investigating the accident in order to know what actually transpired. They have also requested anyone who has got information to forward the information.
In the meantime, the massive traffic jam reaching a distance of nine kilometres indicated the extent to which the crash was serious and how a single incident can result in the lives of a large number of people within a short period of time.
