During the early hours of this Tuesday, the moon turned a deep reddish tone in a spectacular total lunar eclipse that was visible across much of Mexico, North America, and Central America.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, blocking direct sunlight. However, the sun’s light that passes through the Earth’s atmosphere is scattered and bent, resulting in the characteristic reddish glow of the so-called blood moon.
Across much of the country, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Merida, the phenomenon could be observed without the need for telescopes or special protection, as long as the sky remained clear.
Through a statement, the National Autonomous University of Mexico highlighted that this type of eclipse is not dangerous to the eyes, so anyone could observe it without special protection. It also reported that another total lunar eclipse will not be visible from Mexico until December 31, 2028, lasting until January 1, 2029, according to NASA calculations.
