When the growing global girl group KATSEYE started trending on the Internet this week, many of its followers were eager to receive news related to music or performances. Rather, the media attention was directed on a personal scandal of one of its members.

The case began when Manon informed the group that she would temporarily be out of group-related activities because of personal reasons. Just as fans were still coming to terms with the news, soaring remarks by the father of Daniela came into picture to add to the fire.

Thoughtless Comments arouse emotions.
Daniela posted numerous remarks on the situation of Manon by her father which, as per the screenshots spread across the social media, were insensitive to many people.

According to some fans, his words were not understood because of the sensitive nature of the time. The situation was further escalated when he allegedly used Lisa of BLACKPINK in his replies which attracted international fandoms.
Debates were increasing on other platforms with posts spreading very fast. Manon fans complained that the remarks were unjustified and offensive.
Others encouraged individuals to be calm and hold back until they are clarified. The problem became one of the most discussed among the fans of K-pop online in a few hours.
Public Apology Issued
With stiff criticism, the father of Daniela came out later to respond to this. In a brief post, he confessed that he was not in the right state of mind when he posted the remarks.

He said that his posts were put up without deliberate thought and that he was not out to insult Manon or engage other artists. He also directly apologized to the offended fans.
The apology relieved the situation to some extent but the reaction was divided. Although some fans believed his explanation, others still disputed the effects of his initial comments.

In the meantime, both Daniela and the agency of KATSEYE did not issue an official statement of the matter.
Since Manon is on a temporary hiatus, fans have been sending her messages of hope to the group. People are hoping that in the near time, personal controversies will be forgotten in favor of the music and the future the members have.
In the meantime, the incident can be used as yet another example of how readily online commentaries may become significant popular debates, in particular, in the context of the rapidly evolving environment of global pop fandom.
