The recent Champions League between Benfica and Real Madrid is still being discussed in the football world due to a tense situation between Vinicius Junior and Gianluca Prestianni during the match.

The initial round of the playoff, hosted in Lisbon, was already a major game. But what followed after one of the goals of Real Madrid was soon to be the center of attention.
What Happened on the Pitch
Soon after the goal scored by Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior alleged that Prestianni hurled a racist insult at him. The Brazilian forward claimed that the Argentine midfielder did it to hide his mouth on account of speaking. Due to this, it was hard to have the cameras watch or hear the words clearly.

The condition was more critical as the news of the so-called insult became known. Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni of the Real Madrid camp said that Prestianni had used a racial slur. Simultaneously, the striker, Kylian Mbappe, demanded a severe measure of the UEFA, including the potential suspension.
Prestianni strongly protested against the charge. Benfica, in their turn, published a statement in defence of their player and denied any accusation of the racist attitude. The two sides presented a different side of the story and confusion soon ensued.
Government Steps In
The Portuguese Government made a decision to act because the allegation was severe. To investigate the facts, the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport has announced that it opened an administrative procedure.
The game was held in Estadio da Luz, and the authorities are currently seeking to examine all the possible facts, such as video tapes and eyewitness testimonies.

This is an official probe that is supposed to lead to enlightenment. The words were allegedly said when the mouth of the player was covered, hence there is no clear evidence on the part of the public. It complicates the case.
Wider Concerns in Football
It has also created a bigger debate in football because of the incident. Players on the FIFA Players Voice Panel are now discussing potential regulations on players who speak with their mouths covered on the field.
According to former French defender Mikael Silvestre, such a behaviour requires action since it causes suspicion and investigation to be more difficult.

At this point, the investigation is ongoing. Players, fans, and officials are expecting to receive straightforward responses because the European giant contest is now confronted with another delicate scandal.
