Three suspects used hypnosis to defraud a 70-year-old retired civil servant at a shopping center in Jalan Pandan Prima, Kuala Lumpur. The victim lost about RM10,000 (around $3250) worth of gold jewelry in the incident that took place at around 11 am on 20 February. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Khairul Anwar Khalid said a couple and a woman approached the victim seeking help.

They claimed they had a lottery ticket worth RM300,000 (around S$97,380) but could not collect it because they did not have identification. The elderly woman agreed when promised a prize in exchange for help. The suspect then touched her in a way that made her feel hypnotized.
Planned Fraud
Police said the victim was taken to several locations in a grey Proton Waza. At one point along the way, the fraudsters claimed that the lottery money had been converted into a check. They then demanded a deposit of RM30,000 from the victim.

However, since she did not have any cash, the old woman gave her gold ring and bracelet as collateral. The police believe that the entire incident was part of a well-planned fraud.
Trap in Front of the Bank
Later, the victim was taken to a bank in Ampang Point on the pretext of cashing the check. But after being dropped off in front of the bank, the three suspects quickly left. That’s when she realized that she had been cheated. She later filed a complaint with the police station. Police say the incident is under investigation under the Fraud Act.

Police Warning
The police have urged the public not to fall for the lure of strangers. They have warned that such cunning frauds are increasing, especially targeting the elderly. If anyone knows about such incidents, they have been requested to report them to the nearest police station. At the same time, the public has been advised not to hand over personal assets to strangers.
