Millions and millions of individuals in China were staring at the stage when something out of the ordinary came on stage. Humanoid robots will also play kung fu during the 2026 Spring Festival Gala alongside young martial arts students.

The China Media Group organized the event, which is the largest television event in the country in a year. This time the audience did not see singers and dancers but machines moving so fast and so much in balance that almost seemed to be human.

Unitree Robotics, a rapidly developing robotics firm, led the performance. It deployed a couple of G1 and H1 humanoid robots onto the stage. These machines imitated the well-known type of kung fu called the Drunken Fist, which involves swinging and loose moves and falling at any moment.
Once a robot had fallen down to the ground but soon turned around and got back on its feet, it appeared like a scene of the show.

The robots also employed the use of conventional weapons which included swords, poles and nunchucks. They were leaping on tables and making flips. One of the robots has even done a hard spinning step with multiple rotations and landed.
The viewers could see the machines run at high speed on the stage without colliding with each other. Their control and significant planning in the background was evident in their smooth work as a team.
A Stage for Technology
The Spring Festival Gala is not entertainment only. It is also the venue where new technology can be demonstrated to the population. Other robotics firms like MagicLab and Noetix also launched their humanoid versions as well as, along with Unitree, other robotics firms introduced their humanoid models.

There were comedy acts that used some robots to demonstrate pleasant communication skills. Other people revolved around dramatic movements and costumes which had inspiration in the Chinese legends.
One of the taller robots even wore the costume of a renowned Chinese folklore figure the Monkey King, and made playful moves on the stage. This juxtaposition of culture and technology made a strong image. It demonstrated how mythical tales and the latest technology could coexist.

These are not just fun performances as experts say. Their work in the factories, warehouses, and logistics centers is designed to be performed by the robots in the future. Engineers have enhanced their sensors and motion systems to the extent that they are able to move more naturally and safely.
