A casual Instagram video has unexpectedly turned into a love letter to the neighbourhood — and a spotlight on newly completed public infrastructure.

In a clip shared by Instagram creator @shannonkreissl, the camera pans across the newly upgraded Yishun Dam Park Connector, capturing wide water views, fresh greenery and a new bridge that now separates cyclists and pedestrians from fast-moving traffic.

“Look at how beautiful Yishun Dam is,” she says in the video. “Last time, if you want to come here, you had to cycle at the side of the road. A bit dangerous. Now very safe.”

The post quickly drew approving comments, with many praising the calmer, greener experience — and @shannonkreissl joking that Yishun might be “the new Orchard Road.”

From Roadside Cycling to a Safer PCN Route

The stretch featured in the video is part of a recently opened park connector that runs through Yishun Dam, addressing long-standing safety concerns raised by joggers and cyclists.

At the official launch, Facebook user Woon Taiwoon described the connector as “much-needed infrastructure”, noting that traffic along Yishun Dam Road has long been notoriously fast. With the new PCN in place, users no longer need to share the road with vehicles.

The connector is designed for both pedestrians and cyclists, with planted landscaping, benches for rest stops and lighting for evening use. A new bridge — highlighted in the video — now allows uninterrupted movement across the area.

Connecting Yishun to the Wider Park Network

Beyond safety, the upgrade significantly improves connectivity. From Yishun Dam, users can now link into existing northern PCN, linking residential areas to green spaces around the reservoir.

Residents have described it as an “easy way to get around” that also creates space for leisure and memories.

In her video, @shannonkreissl jokes about bringing foldable chairs, portable hotpots and grills to enjoy the view at night — a sentiment echoed by commenters who see the area as a new hangout spot rather than just a transit route.

Exploring More of Yishun

The creator has since continued her “Yishun series,” cycling further to Lower Seletar Reservoir, another PCN-linked spot known for sunset views, dragon boat activity and waterfront paths.

In a second video, she reflects on discovering places in her own neighbourhood for the first time, despite having lived there her entire life — encouraging others to do the same.

“Go and find beauty in your neighbourhood,” she says. For many viewers, the upgraded Yishun Dam PCN has made that beauty easier — and safer — to see.
