A 60-year-old man has died in a road accident in Sibu, Sarawak. The accident occurred on Jalan Deshon on Tuesday (February 10) afternoon. Authorities have confirmed the deceased as Ting Tek Kee.

It is learned that he was seriously injured when a cement mixer lorry hit his pickup truck and he was trapped at the scene. Rescue efforts were later launched, but he could not be rescued alive.
Time of Accident
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call at 12.18pm. Eight firefighters from the Sungai Merah Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred near SMK Rosli Dhobi School.

Upon arrival, they found the pickup truck crushed under the lorry. The driver was trapped inside unconscious.
Rescue Operation
Firefighters first tried to extricate him from the vehicle using airbags. However, initial efforts failed. Later, two cranes were brought in to remove the heavy vehicle. After a long effort, the victim was extricated.

However, the paramedic team from the Ministry of Health declared him dead on the spot. The incident has caused a wave of grief among the locals.
Investigation Process
Sibu Police Chief Zulkifli Suhaili said that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Under this section, cases of death caused by reckless or dangerous driving are investigated. Police said that evidence is being collected. In addition, the statement of the truck driver concerned will be taken.
