Buddhist monks completed a 2,300-mile (3,701-kilometre) ‘Walk for Peace’ in Washington DC on Tuesday, as supporters from across the United States gathered to welcome them at the National Cathedral after more than 108 days on the road from Texas.

Footage shows hundreds of followers lining the streets, holding flowers and cheering as the monks walked toward the Cathedral. Some supporters can be seen joining the procession, while others pray as the group passes by.

“We’ve come up from Florida to bring our community with us, and this walk has been very inspiring. We can do it all together. We are all one. No matter what our differences are. We should come together, and we can cure the world and go forward. And anything that you want to add,” shared participant Dana.

Christina, who arrived from California to witness the finale, said she had been following the monks’ journey since Thanksgiving. “I’ve felt called to come and be with them,” she explained.
“It’s been such a blessing to be here,” Christina said, adding, “That also was very inspiring to see the monks come from all over, who also wanted to take part and share this message of peace for everyone.”

The cross-country pilgrimage drew supporters from across the country to Washington for its final stage, highlighting its message of peace, compassion and mindfulness.
