UiTM Student, 19, Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Rainy Malaysian Highway

10 more got injured including driver and passenger.

UiTM Student, 19, Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Rainy Malaysian Highway

A student from the University Technology Mara (UiTM) Raub campus was killed in a horrific road accident on the Central Spine Road in Raub, Pahang state, Malaysia. The accident occurred on 18 January, around 7:30 at KM 19.4.

The incident, which took place in the rain, involved three vehicles, police said. The deceased student has been identified as Puteri Nusyakirah Sujaimi, aged 19. Ten others, aged between one and 74, were injured in the incident.

Details of the Accident

Police said a Toyota Yaris, a Toyota Alphard, and a Ford Ranger were involved in the accident. Initial investigations showed that the Toyota Yaris, which was heading towards Raub from Kuala Lumpur, lost control and fell into a drain.

The Alphard, which was coming from the same direction, then lost control and hit a metal divider on the road. It later collided with the Yaris. Four passengers in the Alphard suffered minor injuries in the collision. The incident took a horrific turn in an instant, police said.

Deaths and Injuries

Police confirmed that Puteri Nusyakirah was in the Yaris car at the time of the accident. She was thrown from the car due to the force of the collision and died on the spot. Police said that she died from severe head injuries.

The 20-year-old driver of the same car suffered minor injuries and was admitted to Bentong Hospital. It was reported that children and elderly people were among the injured. All the injured are currently undergoing treatment.

Legal Action

Raub District Police Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the incident was being investigated seriously. The case has been registered under the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

This section carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of RM50,000 (around $15700). He urged drivers to drive carefully, especially during the rainy season.

University Mourns

Meanwhile, the UiTM Pahang branch expressed deep sorrow over the death of the slain student in a Facebook post. They expressed their condolences to the family of Puteri Nusyakirah. The university said that she was a first-semester student of the Diploma in Statistics course at the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences on the Raub campus. Her death has cast a shadow of grief among her classmates and teachers. The university authorities have assured that they will stand by the family.

NSTTV Puteri Nusyakirah Suzaimi, 19, was thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the car sustained light injuries in the 7.20pm accident.
