Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed worldwide recognition due to his success in football but as of late his name was mentioned in the news as a result of a very different reason.

In one of the most outrageous instances of vandalism, a statue of Ronaldo in Madeira, Portugal, his hometown was burnt. The case occurred outside the CR7 Museum in the town of Funchal and immediately spread to the Internet.
The video of the incident was a short one, which was shared on Instagram and disseminated very rapidly. A young man is visible in the video pouring an inflammable fluid over the bronze statue then setting it ablaze.
The statue was momentarily covered with flames as the man stood close to it. He danced in front of the camera and after that walked off after he set it on fire. The video was uploaded with a weird message that went as, this is the last warning of God.
Public shock is a result of viral video.
It was even more serious because of the location of the incident. The statue is located in front of the CR7 Museum which is a well-known venue that honors the football career of Ronaldo.

It has a lot of visitors who visit to take photos and be informed about his Madeira to world football star journey. Due to this reason, the video was shocking both to the locals and fans globally.
This was not the initial incident in which the statue was attacked. It was also vandalized and it was shifted to a different place several years ago. Regardless of that history, the recent fire stunt was more radical and hazardous, particularly in the sense that open flames are used within a populated zone.
Citizens cooperate and then police take action.
Almost two days after the video was online, Portuguese police indicated that a person was arrested. The Madeira Regional Command of the Public Security Police published an official statement according to which the case was solved successfully. They commended the members of the population who reported the incident and provided helpful information.

Police noted that such cooperating aided them to identify and intercept the suspect rapidly. Officials reported that the operation was rapid and successful and they managed to contain the situation without any additional damages.
Statue damage still unclear
Initially it was not clear how much of the damage was caused to the statue. The flames could be seen but subsided very soon. The authorities are yet to provide information as to whether the bronze was permanently damaged. The representative of the CR7 Museum said that the case was under investigation by the police and did not provide any additional information.

Cristiano Ronaldo was 40 years old at the time he played in Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr. Even as he goes on with his football career and gears up to join the future tournaments, this shocking event in his hometown has given it worldwide attention not in a good way.
