How Did a Pedestrian Get on NKVE? Fatal Accident Raises Security Questions

A pedestrian was killed in a tragic accident on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) in Shah Alam on 10 January. Police said the incident occurred at around 11:15pm at KM 9.4. The deceased was trying to cross the busy expressway.

He died on the spot after colliding with a private car. The incident sparked a huge discussion on the matter after dashcam footage of the accident went viral on social media.

Details of the Accident

Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the deceased was aged between 50 and 60. Initial investigations revealed that he suddenly crossed the expressway and stood in the second right lane.

The incident occurred after crossing the Elite Expressway Interchange. A car heading from Klang to Damansara hit him. The driver did not have time to deal with the situation.

Serious Injuries

The severity of the collision caused the pedestrian to suffer serious head injuries. Police said the injuries were so severe that he could not receive medical attention. He was declared dead on the spot. The road conditions at the time of the accident were very grim.

This has raised new questions about pedestrian safety. This type of risk is even greater on roads like expressways.

Attempts to Identify

The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, according to the police. The necessary process is underway to identify the body. The police have sought the help of the general public.

Legal Investigation

A case has been registered under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987 in this incident. The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department is investigating the matter. The police said that an investigation is being conducted considering all aspects.

Many netizens have expressed surprise and panic after watching the viral video. Some said that they were mentally shaken by the sudden pedestrian coming in front. Many have also raised questions about where the pedestrians came from on such a busy road. 


Many have demanded that the expressway’s security be strengthened. Overall, the incident has created a deep stir online.
