BYD SUV Uses Roof Drone to Check Traffic During Jam in China
Facebook

A BYD SUV in China recently caught public attention after its driver used a built-in roof drone during a traffic jam. The unusual scene happened, when the driver launched the drone directly from the car roof to check road conditions ahead.

The video quickly spread online because the driver did not step out of the vehicle at all, showing how advanced car technology has become in everyday situations.

Drone Takes Off From Car Roof

The footage shows the SUV stopped in heavy traffic while other cars waited on the road. The driver pressed a button inside the car, and a small drone smoothly lifted off from the roof.

The drone flew forward to capture live images of traffic conditions ahead, helping the driver understand what was causing the delay.

What is the Lingyuan System

The drone system is called Lingyuan, a joint project developed by Chinese electric car maker BYD and drone company DJI.

The system is fully built into the vehicle, meaning the drone is stored, charged, and controlled directly from inside the car. Drivers do not need to open the roof or handle the drone manually, making it simple to use even during busy road situations.

Once the drone finished checking the road, it automatically returned to its place on the roof and locked itself back into the vehicle. The entire process took only a short time.

Many viewers were surprised to see how smoothly the system worked, especially in a real traffic jam rather than a test environment.

Designed For Real Road Situations

The Lingyuan system is designed to help drivers during traffic jams, off-road trips, and emergency situations. By using the drone, drivers can see accidents, road blocks, or congestion ahead without leaving the car.

This feature may be especially useful in large cities where traffic delays can last for hours.

This incident shows how car technology in China continues to develop rapidly. While roof-mounted drones are still new and not common on regular vehicles, the BYD-DJI collaboration suggests that such features may become more available in the future.

For now, the viral video has sparked curiosity and discussion, as many people imagine how this kind of technology could change daily driving experiences.
