Locals in Richmond, South Island, New Zealand, witnessed a strange incident. On a lazy Sunday evening, 30 November, a baby fur seal suddenly entered the popular craft beer bar Sprig + Fern The Meadows.

At first, no one could figure out what kind of animal it was. Later, as the matter became clear, surprise and curiosity spread throughout the bar.
Unexpected Guest at the Bar
Since the bar is pet-friendly, co-owner Bella Evans initially thought a dog had entered. But as she got closer, she saw that it was actually a small seal. All the staff and guests were shocked to see such a sudden scene. Discussions immediately started on how to handle the situation.

Hidden Under the Dishwasher
First, a guest tried to get the seal out with a sweater. However, it escaped into the bathroom and then took refuge under the dishwasher. The dishwasher was quickly turned off for safety. Later, a guest brought a dog cage from home. Finally, the plan was to use salmon to pull the seal out.

The Role of the Conservation Department
Shortly after, the rangers of the conservation department arrived there. They said that this was their fourth call that day about it. They had already been searching for the little seal in the area.

Later, the seal was released on Rabbit Island, which is safe and free of dogs. Officials said that such wandering is normal behavior for young seals at this time.
Netizens’ Reaction
As soon as the incident spread, a flood of humor flooded social media. Some said that the little seal was trying to hide next to the toilet. Others jokingly wrote that they found a new story about entering the club. Many expressed relief at the animal’s safe return.

‘Silly season’ and life close to people
According to experts, the number of seals and sea lions in New Zealand has increased. As a result, they are now coming closer to people than before. Every year, they are seen in such strange places at a certain time, which is called ‘Silly season‘. Sometimes they appear at homes, sometimes at golf courses, and sometimes in bars.
