A frightening video from northern Japan has caught public attention after showing a wild bear charging directly at a moving car. The incident happened in Hokkaido, where encounters between humans and bears have increased sharply in recent months. The short clip, filmed at night, quickly spread online and raised new concerns about safety in rural areas.

Sources say that a ranch employee was driving to work at around 7:30 p.m. when the driver suddenly came face to face with a bear on a narrow bridge. With little space to escape, the moment turned tense within seconds.
A Sudden Encounter on a Narrow Bridge
In the video, recorded during rainy weather, a large brown bear can be seen running straight toward the car. The bridge was too narrow for the driver to turn away. The only option was to reverse quickly. The bear continued chasing the vehicle for several seconds, creating a terrifying scene that felt almost unreal.

The ranch owner later explained that nothing more happened beyond what was shown in the clip and that the driver escaped without injury. However, the danger was clear. The same post included a photo of the car’s hood, showing dents and scratches left by the bear’s attack.
Rising Bear Sightings Across Japan
This incident is not an isolated case. Japan has seen a strong rise in wild bear activity, especially in northern regions.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, 20,792 bear sightings were reported between April and September this year. This number is already higher than the total reported for all of last year, even though several months remain.
Deadly Encounters Increase Public Fear
The rise in sightings has also led to more deadly encounters. Official data shows that 13 people have died from bear attacks since April. This is more than double the previous record of six deaths reported in 2023.

As the video from Hokkaido continues to spread, it has become a powerful symbol of the growing tension between wildlife and daily life in Japan. While the incident ended safely, it highlights a serious situation that many rural communities are now facing.
