The Criminal Police Department in Cambodia has rescued six kidnapped Chinese nationals during a raid on a house in Bavet town, Svay Rieng province. Eight suspects from China and Myanmar have also been arrested.
The whole incident came to light after a Chinese national was kidnapped early Thursday, 4 December. Later, a quick raid was conducted, and the police identified the kidnappers’ hideout.

The Kidnapping Began
A group of people from China and Myanmar forced a Chinese national into a Range Rover car early Thursday morning. Then they quickly left Bavet town along National Road-1. After seeing the incident, passersby informed the police. Then a specialized unit quickly reached the scene. They quickly followed the kidnappers’ route.

Raid and Rescue
By noon, the police identified the kidnappers’ hiding place. Then, a little before 3 pm, special forces raided the house. There, the police arrested two Chinese citizens and six Myanmar citizens.

In addition, six Chinese abductees were rescued from inside the house. Various types of torture equipment were also found.
Social Reaction
After the incident came to light, there was a strong reaction among netizens. Many complained that transnational crime has been increasing throughout Cambodia for a long time. Some said that some criminals are taking advantage of the visa-free facility to carry out illegal activities in the country.

Others commented that the authorities should be stricter in suppressing such crimes. In addition, many also expressed doubts about the role of political figures in the country.

Legal Process and Investigation
The police said that eight suspects have been handed over to the provincial criminal unit. Legal process will now be initiated against them. In addition, the recovered equipment will also play an important role in the investigation.
The police also said that the physical condition of the abductees is being monitored. The motive of the entire incident will be clear after taking their statements.
