A heartbreaking incident has taken place in the Vasilievo area of Zelenodolsk, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. On 26 October, a five-year-old girl allegedly threw her 21-day-old newborn sister from the fourth floor out of jealousy. The baby died on the spot.

Two Children Were Alone At Home
According to local media reports, the two children were alone at home at the time of the incident. Their parents were separated and living separately. It is said that the father was at work, and the mother had gone out for a while.
At that time, the five-year-old older sister threw the newborn out of the window. The child was thrown from a height of 40 feet of the building and was seriously injured, and passersby heard the screams and ran to see the frozen body.

Was Jealousy The Cause of Death?
Initial investigations revealed that the older sister was upset by the arrival of her sister. She did not understand why another baby had come to the house and the family’s attention had been diverted from her.

Police believe she took the horrific step out of jealousy. “The girl was upset by the presence of the newborn and suddenly threw herself out the window in a fit of rage,” a source told local media.
Mother Arrested, Investigation Underway
Russia’s Investigative Committee has filed a criminal case into the baby’s death and has arrested the mother on charges of negligence. It is investigating why the mother left the children alone and where she was at the time of the incident.

Experts have also been called in to assess the older sister’s mental state. “I offer my condolences to the family, but I appeal to all parents — never leave children alone,” said District Administrator Mikhail Afanasyev.
