Body Discovered After Neighbors Noticed Odor
On 18 September, police found the body of a deceased 16-year-old girl from Cambodia’s Kampong Tralach district with 33 stab wounds. Authorities stated to Cambodian media that neighbours suspected something was amiss after a foul odour was detected emanating from the girl’s home.

They then discovered the body in her bedroom at around 1:15 a.m.

Police reported observing severe injuries on the victim’s head, chest, arms and legs. The victim was living alone as her father, a tuk-tuk driver, was away for work. The victim’s parents were divorced and her mother had remarried elsewhere.
Investigation and Arrest
Once the victim was discovered, an immediate investigation was launched by the Criminal Police Department together with Kampong Chhnang Provincial Police.

In two days’ time, on the 20th, the investigators identified and arrested a 17-year-old girl from the same village on suspicion of murder.

Following questioning, the police said she admitted to buying a knife from the local market on 15 September for 12,000 riel (about SG$3.83). She further admitted stabbing the victim multiple times.
Suspect’s Alleged Motive
According to police, the suspect told investigators she acted out of anger after learning the victim had allegedly pressured one of her relatives into sexual activity with another person.

She claimed the incident pushed her to seek revenge.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Authorities confirmed the suspect remains in custody while they have handed over the case to Kampong Chhnang Provincial Police for further legal action.
