Arrest At Bukit Kayu Hitam Checkpoint

A 17-year-old Malaysian student was arrested by the Kedah branch of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) after testing positive for drugs upon returning from Thailand.

According to Berita Harian, the student was detained with three friends, all aged 18, while riding two motorcycles at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS).

The arrest took place at around 3.45 pm on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, as they were making their way home to Penang after a holiday that began on Saturday, 13 September 2025.

All Four Found Positive For Ketamine

Urine screenings conducted by AADK revealed that the student and his three friends were all positive for ketamine.

Tried Drugs Because of Life Pressures and Curiosity

AADK Kedah director Khairul Anwar Ahmad said the student admitted to trying the drug because of life pressures and curiosity.

He also confessed this was his second time using ketamine, the first being during an earlier trip to Thailand.

Family Background and Struggles

The student, who is an only child, has been living with his grandparents since the age of nine following his parents’ divorce.

Authorities said the teen cited personal stress as one of the reasons for experimenting with drugs.

More Arrests In The Operation

Beyond the four boys, AADK confirmed that six individuals in total, aged between 17 and 19, were detained during the two-hour operation from 3 pm to 5 pm at the checkpoint.

All of them tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which provides for both treatment and rehabilitation of drug users.
