A Strange Excuse to Skip School

In Shah Alam, a 13-year-old boy went as far as lodging a false police report to avoid going to school after stepping on cat faeces.

According to NST, the student lodged the report on Thursday, September 11, 2025, claiming he was nearly abducted while walking to school earlier that day.

Police Discovered the Story Was False

Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the boy and his 37-year-old father later turned up at the district headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department to give their statements.

During questioning, officers found the kidnapping claim to be completely untrue. The boy eventually admitted he lied because he did not want to attend school wearing shoes dirtied by cat faeces.

Stern Warning Instead of Charges

Iqbal explained that no legal action would be taken against the boy since he is still a student. However, both the child and his father were issued a stern warning.

The father also withdrew the police report after learning the actual circumstances.

False Reports Can Lead to Jail or Fines

While the boy avoided charges this time, police stressed that making false reports is an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

Offenders can face imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000 (approx. S$609.51), or both.

Iqbal reminded the public that such actions waste valuable police time and resources.
