From Red Light to Rainy Roadside Delivery
A stop at a traffic light turned into a life-changing moment for a young mother in Johor.
On Sunday (Aug 10) at about 2 pm, a woman went into labour while riding on the back of a motorcycle with her husband near the traffic lights at Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang.
The couple stopped, and the mother quickly got off the motorcycle and lay down at the roadside in the drizzle.
Initially, some passersby thought an accident had occurred and started recording. Others hesitated to help, even after calls for assistance.
Women Step In to Assist
According to WeirdKaya, the person who recorded and posted the viral TikTok clip (the OP) said the first to act was a Malay woman in a black shirt, who sat behind the mother’s head to comfort her.

An Indian woman on her way to the temple soon stopped to help, and her husband urged others nearby to join in.
Among those who stepped forward was 36-year-old housewife Syarifah Munawwarah Sayed Muhammad, who was waiting at the same traffic light with her husband, The Vibes reported.
She recalled seeing the two women assisting and being called over by the Indian woman’s husband as others nearby were too afraid to help.
To give the young mother privacy from passing vehicles, umbrellas were arranged around her.
Baby Already Halfway Out
By the time Syarifah arrived, the baby had already partially emerged. She and the others encouraged the mother to continue pushing, and the baby was born safely just moments later.
As none of them had medical training, Syarifah called a nurse friend for advice on what to do next. The nurse recommended tying the umbilical cord, but they had no medical tools available at the scene.
Shoelace Becomes a Lifeline
In the absence of proper equipment, a shoelace from a food delivery rider at the scene was used to tie the cord before it was cut.
The mother, still in pain, pushed again, releasing more blood before finally feeling relieved. She was later given a sweet drink to help keep her awake.
Some bystanders managed traffic, while others shielded the mother and newborn from the drizzle.
Safe Arrival at Hospital and Public Gratitude
An ambulance arrived about 30 minutes after the birth, taking them to Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI).
The baby boy was reported to be in good health, while the mother remained under observation and had yet to see her newborn.

Following the incident, those who helped have reportedly been invited to appear on TV3’s morning talk show Malaysia Hari Ini (MHI).

The mother later posted on TikTok to thank everyone who stopped to help, saying their kindness and quick action ensured her and her baby’s safety and would never be forgotten.
