Vietnamese Man Assaults Woman After She Refuses to Apologize Over Children’s Dispute

He is under investigation for “disturbing public order.”

Disagreement Between Children Led to Tension

Several days before the assault, Thanh’s son claimed the woman’s son had hit him while they were playing.

The other child denied the accusation. Thanh said he had asked the woman to apologise, but she refused.

A resident later described the dispute between the children as “only minor” and said that after the assault, Thanh loudly threatened to kill the woman.

Eyewitness Account and Video Details

Security footage of the incident quickly spread online. Nearby, a young child cried while another woman stood close but did not step in to help.

According to Dân Việt, the building’s security guard, T.T.H., said that during the confrontation,

“The woman cried and asked, ‘Why did you hit me?’ The man replied, ‘You hit my child.’ But the woman immediately responded, ‘I didn’t hit your child.’”

Legal Consequences

Under Article 318 of Vietnam’s Penal Code, those found guilty of disturbing public order may face fines ranging from VND 5–50 million (S$245–2,451), non-custodial reform for up to two years, or imprisonment for three months to two years.

Police are continuing to investigate and have stated that Thanh will be dealt with according to the law.
