Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Shooting WhatsApp Admin for Removing Him

After being removed from a WhatsApp group, a Pakistani man has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting the group’s administrator.

According to reports citing AFP, the incident happened in Peshawar, a city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan and has a history of personal and sectarian violence.

WhatsApp Dispute Escalates to Violence

Based on police documents and a statement from the victim’s brother, Mushtaq Ahmed had removed a man named Ashfaq from a community WhatsApp group after an argument.

Agreeing to meet and resolve their dispute, the two reportedly planned a meetup to settle the issue. However, Mushtaq’s brother said Ashfaq turned up with a gun and shot Mushtaq.

Police stated that the suspect was angry about being removed from the chat group and that this triggered the shooting.

Broader Concerns Around Guns and Local Traditions

The case shows how personal disputes can turn deadly in areas where firearms are widely available. The “influence of tribal customs” and limited law enforcement also play a role in such outcomes.
