A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a young girl at Masjid Jamek Sungai Masin in Batang Kali, Selangor, during morning prayers on February 21.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said authorities received a report about the incident at 8:19 a.m., and the suspect was apprehended around noon on the same day with the help of the public.
CCTV Footage of the Incident
The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m., as captured by the mosque’s CCTV footage.
The video showed a man wearing a yellow and black t-shirt, white ‘kopiah’ (skullcap), and black trousers entering the women’s prayer section while worshippers were performing their morning prayers.

The young girl, whose mother had brought her and her sibling to the mosque for the morning (Subuh) prayers, was positioned behind other female worshippers.
She was the only person in her row, making it easier for the man to target her unnoticed.

The footage showed the man approaching the girl while she was praying, discreetly carrying her away, and leading her to another part of the mosque.

In a separate video, he was seen allegedly attempting to assault the girl. When she resisted, the man fled the scene.

Fortunately, his face was clearly captured on CCTV, and the video quickly spread on social media, with many sharing it to assist authorities in identifying the suspect.

Suspect and Victim Were Strangers
Police confirmed that the suspect did not know the victim and that the alleged assault appeared to be a random act.
“The suspect is believed to have no prior connection to the victim, and the act was carried out randomly,” said Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
Suspect Holds Person with Disabilities Card
The suspect was later revealed to be registered as a person with disabilities (OKU) due to a learning disability.
Selangor Welfare Department director Azmir Kassim confirmed this, stating, “Our checks found that he (the suspect) has had an OKU card for a learning disability since he was young.”
Legal Proceedings and Potential Consequences
The suspect appeared at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate’s Court on February 22, where the court granted a seven-day remand until February 28 to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. If convicted, the suspect could face up to 20 years in prison and whipping.
