Biryani for a Cause: Singapore’s First Fundraiser for Gaza

The Marsiling-Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency (GRC), with the help of grassroots volunteers and Masjid An-Nur, recently launched Singapore’s first biryani fundraiser for Gaza.

Supported by Nazreen Catering, the initiative brought people from all walks of life together to raise funds and show solidarity for those affected by the genocide in Gaza.

More Than Just a Meal

The “Biryani Amal for Gaza” fundraiser was not your typical donation drive. At $10 per pack, the sale of biryani meals served as a creative way to rally the community for a good cause.

All proceeds went toward humanitarian relief for Gaza, while the act of sharing a meal brought people closer to the purpose behind the campaign.

The event also included meaningful activities like Solat Hajat (special prayers) and Bacaan Tahlil (prayer recitations).

These moments of reflection emphasized the shared hope for peace and comfort in Gaza, reminding everyone that small actions can make a big difference.

Clearing Up Misunderstandings

While the campaign was widely appreciated, some questioned its approach in the comment section. One person remarked, “I don’t understand this concept. You buy biryani, then money goes to Gaza. But the overhead for biryani—who pays? Wouldn’t it be better to donate $10 directly?”

Organizers explained that this initiative was not about running a business. Instead, it was designed to raise awareness and engage the community in a tangible way.

Buying the biryani serves as a meaningful gesture, allowing people to feel connected to the cause while sparking conversations about how they can help.

Future Opportunities to Support

For those who missed the first event on November 14, there are still chances to contribute. The next fundraiser dates are November 24, December 1, and December 6. These sessions give the public more opportunities to get involved and support the campaign.

Donations can also be made directly through Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC or via an online form. Organizers emphasized that every contribution, no matter the amount, plays an important role in providing aid to Gaza.

Nazreen Catering: Helping Build Stronger Communities

Nazreen Catering, known for its exceptional halal catering services and full-event packages, expressed gratitude for supporting a meaningful campaign.

With a reputation for offering high-quality food and seamless event coordination, they emphasized the importance of compassion and community involvement.

Nazreen Catering was humbled to witness so many coming together to make a difference.
