An unfortunate incident unfolded in Batu Gajah, Perak, as five men were taken into custody for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl. The suspects, aged between 18 and 27, are currently under investigation following the arrest at a local hostel where the crime reportedly took place.
Found After Filing a Missing Report
The case came to light after the victim’s mother lodged a police report on October 21 around 1.30 PM, when her daughter failed to return home after school.
Perak’s Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner (DCP) Zulkafli Sariaat, revealed that the victim did not go missing immediately after school, as her mother had initially thought. Instead, she had gone to meet her boyfriend before encountering other acquaintances.
Lured to a Hostel
According to the police statement, the victim met a new acquaintance who invited her to join him for a meal. Afterward, she was persuaded to follow him to a hostel in Batu Gajah. Upon arrival, she was directed to an empty room, supposedly to rest, where five other men were present.
It was inside this room that the horrific crime unfolded, with the suspects allegedly taking turns to assault the teenager.
Swift Action by the Authorities
According to The Star, authorities acted quickly once the crime was reported. On October 22, investigators located the victim at the hostel and brought her to the Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters for questioning.
This was when the victim recounted the incident, detailing how the men had assaulted her around 10:22 PM on the night of October 21.
Suspects Face Serious Charges
Following the information provided by the victim, the police arrested all five suspects. Background checks revealed that two of the suspects, both aged 27, had previous criminal records, including drug-related offenses.
The suspects have been remanded for six days as the investigation continues under Section 375B of the Penal Code, which deals with gang rape and carries severe penalties upon conviction.
Ensuring Justice for the Victim
As the investigation unfolds, the police remain committed to ensuring that justice is served. DCP Zulkafli urged parents to monitor their children closely, including checking their mobile phones to prevent contact with unknown individuals.
