Maids and caregivers play a crucial role in supporting those who need it most, particularly the elderly. Their care can make a significant difference in the lives of those they look after. However, a recent incident at a local clinic has raised concerns about the quality of care some elderly people are receiving.
On September 4th, a concerned individual shared a troubling experience on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page about the neglectful behavior of a maid at Mission Clinic in Bukit Gombak. The poster witnessed the maid ignoring the clinic nurse’s request to assist an elderly man who was clearly struggling to get to the toilet. Despite the nurse’s repeated attempts to get the maid’s attention, she acted as though nothing was happening.
“No, we go home now”
The situation worsened when the elderly man finished taking his medicine and was ready to pay his bills. Instead of helping him into his wheelchair, the maid stood off to the side, leaving him to manage on his own.
This lack of care was further proven when the elderly man expressed a simple desire for fishball noodles. According to the poster, instead of getting what he asked for, she said, “No, we go home now,” and only bought him soy milk—something he hadn’t even wanted.
Witness Speaks Out
The original poster, who shared this account on Facebook, was deeply disturbed by what she saw. She noted that the elderly man was able to communicate clearly with the clinic nurse, raising questions about why the maid felt the need to speak so loudly to him.
She also praised the nurse for stepping in to help, even though it wasn’t her job to do so. “She had to stop her duty at the counter, came out, and even waited outside for the elderly.”
Online Reactions
The post sparked a range of reactions. One commenter questioned the poster’s actions, asking if more could have been done in the moment rather than just sharing the story online. They suggested that alerting the elderly man’s family might have been more helpful.
Others expressed doubts about the maid’s behavior, with some believing that domestic helpers often act differently when their employers aren’t around, raising concerns about the true nature of her care.
On the other hand, some offered practical advice. They encouraged the poster to contact the police or social services to ensure the elderly man received proper care, suggesting a welfare check might be needed.
