BLOCK Mosquito Girl: Environment Ministry’s dengue meme and One Punch Man reference amuses netizens

Never thought that I would be writing about Mosquito Girl, a demon-level threat from the One Punch Man anime, and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (that’s a mouthful) in the same sentence, but here we are. As Mr Peanutbutter from Bojack Horseman would say, “What is this? A crossover episode?

Ministry’s Memes

Earlier this month, Minister Desmond Tan made reference to “an urgent emergency phase” in Singapore’s fight against Dengue. Today, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (the “MSE”) contributed to the battle by producing the best thing since the “5-step Mozzie Wipeout”, a meme.

On a side note, I’d wager that you probably do not remember the 5 steps in the Mozzie Wipeout. Don’t fret, we’ll come back to it later when the ministry cock-blocks us.

This meme makes reference to both Tinder and Mosquito Girl, a villain who appears in the second episode of the One Punch Man anime series. In Mosquito Girl’s Tinder bio, she writes that she has the “strongest affinity to blood type “O” but anyone will do.”

She also discloses her fondness of people who “skip a shower or two” and wear “sleeveless clothing”. Well, we do not kink shame here.

Although she is less than 0.2 miles away (Google tells me that is about 300 meters away), the Memestry encourages us to not just unmatch with Mosquito Girl, but to block her.

Block Mosquito Girl

The MSE, in a caption that sounds a little like a jilted ex lover, encourages readers, in no uncertain terms, to block Mosquito Girl. For some reason, swiping left or unmatching alone is not enough.

It encouraged readers to perform the following 5-steps to BLOCK Mosquito Girl:

– Break up hardened soil
– Lift and empty flowerpot plates
– Overturn pails and wipe their rims
– Change water in vases
– Keep roof gutters clear and place BTI insecticide.

Reactions

MSE’s post was very well received by Facebook users, with almost 200 shares within 2 days.

Many praised MSE’s social media and marketing team for coming up with such creative and relevant content.

If this fight is to turn out anything like the actual battle between Saitama, the hero of the anime who struggles with ennui, and Mosquito Girl, MSE can rest easy.
