A 30-year-old Minnesota woman, Veronica Roleen Gast, was arrested on multiple charges, including second-degree assault, criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, gross negligence, and domestic assault. According to police reports obtained by Law&Crime, this followed an incident on August 10, 2024, where Gast allegedly attempted to run over her boyfriend while they were on their way to a couples therapy session.
Incident on the Way to Therapy
During the drive, her boyfriend decided to end their relationship and asked to be taken home. Around 1 p.m., Gast stopped the car in the middle of the traffic lane, leading to a peak in their confrontation.
Confrontation and Attempted Assault
According to the police affidavit, Gast demanded that her boyfriend exit the vehicle. As he passed in front of the car to reach the sidewalk, they made eye contact. Gast then allegedly accelerated, striking him with the car. The boyfriend rolled over the hood, shattering the windshield and sustaining a cut on his right elbow. He primarily hit the windshield with his back, which caused a significant crack in the windshield, as detailed by NBC 15 News.
Initial Denial and Subsequent Admission
Initially, Gast claimed that the crack in the windshield was caused by her boyfriend punching it. However, she later admitted to police that she had hit him with her car. Gast explained that as she was pulling away, she accidentally struck her boyfriend. She slowed down and eventually stopped to call the police, explaining that she was in shock and did not immediately realize what had happened.
Gast was taken into custody and now faces serious legal charges. She was held at the Otter Tail Detention Facility but appears to have been released as of August 14, 2024. Local authorities have not provided additional comments on the case.
